As we draw towards the end of this cold, wet winter, Ecosol Turfcare’s order book is filling up rapidly for springtime Drill n Fill.
As one of the most popular drainage solutions on golf greens with its 30mm drills able to penetrate, extract and backfill in one action, Drill n Fill aeration opens the way for water to percolate off the green surface down to drainage layers below. Backfill can be a tailor-made mix of sand and soil amendment to further improve rootzone and grass growth.
We will be travelling all over the country to carry out the work and have seen a healthy flush of bookings from the Continent. Our senior Drill n Fill mechanic, Chris King, has just returned from a renovation and refit on a machine we sold to Munchen-Eichenried golf club in Germany.
One of the last Drill n Fill jobs we carried out in autumn 2014 was at Vidauban,(pictured), an exclusive private golf club nestled between the mountains and the sea in the south of France above Nice. It was suffering from puddling on top of the greens. Soil was compacted, stony and thatchy. Working in conjuction with Julian Mooney of Turfgrass Consultancy, Ecosol took out two Drill n Fill machines to treat all 18 greens with a double pass, following immediately with the Graden linear aerator which took care of the thatch.
Delighted with the work and greens performance in the early part of this winter, the process has been daubed as a great success, as the sand-filled vertical ducts and linear grooves created by the two processes have and continue to work well into winter 2014-15 and have allowed the greens and turfgrasses to improve in quality.
We are also planning excursions this year with the Drill n Fill aerators going to South-West France, The Alps and Paris.
